In July, we met Masanori Sugiura. Though on commission for creative work, this photography and film work is actually his hobby! For the second blogpost, he decided to talk about street shots.
For this blog, I will describe my experience taking photos in Ryougoku in Tokyo.
When I first lay my eyes on a given city scene, I notice the lines and colors that make up the scene. I don’t consider cityscape photography as just snapping up scenery that enters your line of vision; it’s more a matter of creating images with lines, shapes and colors.
For example, I found a peculiar kind of beauty in the reddish-brown wall below. The shape of the window, the lines traced by the brown pipes, and the distribution of the potted plants all give it a special “rhythm”.
I also found these elements–the lines, the shapes and balance–in other scenes that I snapped.
Lines, shapes, colors and balance, elements which I am sure you have noticed while looking at a building or drawing, are key not only in painting and architecture, etc., but also in photography.
