SABAH — THIS IS WHAT A VACATION MEANS

I understand that travels are classified into different types only after I grow up. Traveling to Tokyo means shopping, traveling to Egypt means sightseeing, and traveling to Sabah means taking a vacation. Don’t argue that traveling to Tokyo also means taking a good vacation. I just point out what most people think of a trip to Tokyo. If you want shopping and sightseeing, don’t go to Sabah. People living in Hong Kong often have a fast pace of life, and forget to relax themselves while taking a vacation. They are in a hurry even when going across a road. They forget what a real vacation should be.

When reaching the destination of the vacation, you should adjust yourself accordingly. What is the first thing that you will do when you arrive at the hotel? Turning on the Wi-Fi? Unpacking your luggage? Dropping yourself onto the bed? Taking a bath? No way. Faced with such a fabulous sea view, I will first step out to the balcony, take a deep breath of the fresh air, and sit down quietly to enjoy everything in front of me.

In the morning when the sun shines but the sunlight is not too strong, take a morning swim either on the beach or in the swimming pool. You can swim to the edge of the swimming pool to take a close look at the sea view. That’s fantastic.

The sunset in Sabah is hailed as one of the three most beautiful sunsets in the world. About 18:00 PM everyday, a lot of people will stay on the beach and wait for the sunset. In the Sunset bar at the end of the beach, a live band is playing jazz. The soft sea breeze, the charming melody, and the beautiful sunset compose a magnificent view. At this very moment, in this very place, the romance flows around. The last moment when the golden sun disappears, a lot of people on the beach clap their hands. This is the first time that I see so many people at the sunset.

Generally, you snorkel to enjoy the world under the sea in a relaxed manner. But in Sabah, soon after you take a few steps into the sea you can find schools of fish swimming to and fro freely around you, instead of being scared off by you. This is the fun that a vacation can bring to you.

Life is tough and bitter. So you need to find something sweet to comfort yourself. The local sweet food in Sabah is too much for me, so I choose a French restaurant on the street. The dessert menu is so delicate that I suddenly find it difficult to make a choice. Finally, I order a French dessert plate, which is so lovely that I couldn’t bear to put it into my mouth.

In Sabah, you can try the sea foods that are rare for you, for example, coral lobster, wild tiger prawn, and wild blue cod. There are so many of them that they become common sea foods in Sabah, and the prices are low. For example, the white clam, many people must know how big it is! It is as big as your palm when opened. I’ve never seen it before in Hong Kong. What’s more, the clams are fat, fresh, tender and delicious. It is my first time that I taste such delicious clams.
Enjoy yourself by taking delicious foods and have fun in Sabah. That is a real vacation.
