The group decided that the exhibition place would be Yokohama. So, what, you ask, is the theme of the event？
Running around, all of a sudden we are back to square 1 with the candidates for gallery venues, and 「PIECE OF」 members with minds blank and a mountain of preparations on top of the gallery venue search.
One item for preparation is the planning of exhibition contents.
Because it is an exhibition of work by seven distinct individuals, items are collected and displayed randomly, thus making it an amalgam of “mini exhibitions ” .
One corner of the exhibition ended up becoming a “common theme” corner.
With things developing in this manner, ‘Is there any theme here?’ becomes the question…
What of the photographic subject? The place? ..Many ideas pop up but then disappear. We finally settle on the Yokohama Gallery, and the common theme also crystallizes as “nature” and “orientation.”
Our photography group met on several occasions in Yokohama.
It goes without saying that Yokohama, the photogenic historic port town that was created as the gate to Japan at the end of the Edo Era, is a popular spot for photographers.
The exhibition of photographs born out of the singular “field” of Yokohama is capital because allows individual members to showcase their personailities. Tis is why Yokohama became the meeting place.
It was with relief that we decided the theme as “Yokohama” . Whew! Whither our next challenge to face down?
