People photographing people.

Letting people nestle into the background.

In this fourth article, I’d like to talk about the kind of portraits I aim to shoot.

When I was in 3rd year and absorbed in leafing through various magazines and photo collections, a fascination with portraits gradually took hold of me. The act of photographing people so totally captivated me that I thought there was no limit.

The beauty of portraits is that depending on who takes the photos, the portrait expression can be completely different with the same subject. I think discovering the different facial expressions that can be seen through the viewfinder is a real thrill that only photographers experience.

The the number of good portraits the simple act of people photographing people produces is almost limitless.

The thing I prioritize when taking portrait photos is the search for backgrounds.
By considering how to place a person within a town etc. scene, you enhance the picture significantly.

Posture and expression are things you take on the spur of the moment, so it is better not to think about these too much.

Don’t get in too close though. It’s better to search out the composition that best fits the subject. In this way the subject and the background blend to give you a splendid aerial feeling.

Let the subject nestle into the background.

This brings out a natural expression with an aerial feeling, and it is at this time I press the shutter.
