Just a few days ago I was asked by a friend, “What’s the one thing you can’t travel without?”. The answer is always my camera or phone. And thinking about it, the second item would be my tripod. I am a big Manfrotto fan, and I was lucky enough to have the chance to try out their brand new Befree Advanced Carbon tripod. I have been using the tripod for a few weeks now, and I must say, no words can do justice to the greatness of this product. It’s simply the perfect tripod for your photo adventures on the road.
Travelling around with a camera, a drone, lenses, and accessories are heavy enough. Add a tripod to that list and you might end up with a bad back. The great thing about the BeFree Advanced is that it has the perfect balance between being lightweight due to its carbon fiber build, and being sturdy enough for sharp and clean photos. It truly does provide the best of both worlds, and that is rare to find in any product let alone tripods.
Shooting with a tripod requires extra setup time which can be a hassle, but with the Befree Advanced Carbon, it makes the process a lot easier and convenient. After familiarizing myself with the product, I would say it took me about 15 seconds to set it up. When shooting in the outdoors, especially during sunset, the sky changes every second. So I especially love the twist lock mechanism where I can adjust the height of the tripod really quickly, avoiding chances of missing the perfect moment for the perfect shot.
As with any other tripods from Manfrotto, the design is always slick and cool. It looks and feels premium – a definite bang for your buck. It folds up nice and small, and fits perfectly into the hidden tripod holder flap in the Manfrotto Manhattan 3-way shoulder bag.
In tripods, I have noticed in the past that the moving parts make it prone to quick wear and tear. With the widely different weather conditions that we experience in short periods of time, it only weighs heavier on the tripod. The Befree Advanced Carbon is designed with precision, with parts that have a frictionless feel to it, which allows for quicker setups, and a longer lasting product. I am still in awe with the smooth locking system, and the ball head movement that allows for a hassle-free shoot. After just a few tries, it becomes apparent that Manfrotto has put in a lot of time in ergonomics. All my qualms and complaints with other tripods seem to have been well addressed in this one. Now, it is hard to imagine a trip without my Befree Advanced Carbon!
